Ford's Fusion Energi saw a redesign last year, along with the rest of the Fusion lineup. That included slightly updated styling and Ford's Sync 3 infotainment system. The Energi doesn't change this year but remains far and away the most affordable midsize plug-in hybrid sedan. MSRP for the Fusion is thousands less than the Hyundai Sonata and Kia Optima plug-ins, although some of that is due to Ford offering the Energi in SE and Titanium trims.
The Fusion Energi does sacrifice some all-electric range to the Kia and Hyundai, but it still offers an impressive 35 km range. On top of that, it offers 2.4 Le/100 km combined, or 5.5 city, 5.7 highway. Those fuel economy numbers beat the Sonata and Optima, despite the shorter range.
Power comes from a 2.0L inline four-cylinder engine and a 118 hp electric motor. Combined, the system makes 188 hp. That's enough to move the Energi briskly enough for most, although it can be a little sluggish on electric power alone.
The Fusion Energi is well equipped, with even the base SE model having dual-zone climate control, active noise control, and a 10-way power driver's seat. The front seats are also heated. Navigation is optional, as is a heated steering wheel. Optional features include adaptive cruise, blind spot alerts, self-parking, and lane keeping assist. Or you can get a package that bundles all of the driver assist features.
Fusion Energi Titanium adds ambient lighting, sport pedals, and a light-up glove box. It also has a Sony stereo with 12 speakers. Titanium adds leather seats and extra adjustments for the front passenger. The same driver assists are available, as are cooled seats.
The top Platinum trim ups the levels of luxury. It has fancier leather for the seats and some other places in the interior as well. All of the active safety features come standard. The Platinum has a power-tilt and telescoping steering wheel and standard cooled front seats.
